ASSISTIVE DEVICES PROGRAM (ADP) IN PARIS

What is the Assistive Devices Program (ADP)?

The Assistive Devices Program (ADP), administered by Ontario's Ministry of Health, provides financial assistance to residents with long-term physical disabilities, facilitating access to personalized assistive devices that enhance independence and quality of life.

Role of Physiotherapists in the ADP

Registered physiotherapists play a crucial role in the ADP by assessing clients' needs and authorizing appropriate mobility aids. As an ADP authorizer, a physiotherapist is responsible for:

  • Assessment: Conducting thorough evaluations to determine the most suitable assistive devices for clients.

  • Authorization: Completing and submitting the necessary documentation to the ADP for funding approval.

  • Client Education: Providing guidance on the use and maintenance of prescribed devices.

To become an ADP authorizer, physiotherapists must meet specific criteria and complete the required training as outlined by the Ministry of Health.

ADP Application Process

  • Assessment: A registered ADP authorizer, such as a physiotherapist, evaluates the client's needs.

  • Application Completion: The authorizer assists the client in filling out the ADP application form.

  • Vendor Selection: The client selects an ADP-registered vendor to supply the prescribed device.

  • Submission: The completed application is submitted to the ADP for review.

  • Approval and Payment: Upon approval, the ADP covers up to 75% of the cost for approved devices. Clients receiving social assistance benefits may qualify for full coverage.
