LABORATORY SERVICES IN PARIS ONTARIO
What is Functional Lab Testing
Functional laboratory testing a method to gain more comprehensive understanding of how our body is functioning.
The types of tests include: blood, urine, saliva, sputum, stool and other bodily fluids.
There is a distinction between the testing a naturopath does and your medical doctor may do.
The Difference Between MD Testing and ND Testing (In Ontario)
Who Pays For What?
If your ND orders your testing, you will pay out of pocket. Most tests through an MD is covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), so you don't pay. For a full list of what an MD can order (and their associated costs to the government), click here.
NDs Offer the Same Tests...Plus Alot More
NDs can offer all the same tests your MD runs. We have access to the same tests and the same laboratories.
NDs also offer more than what your MD can run. We call these functional tests. These tests look for things MDs are not looking for. This is why OHIP doesnt cover it.
ND Testing Is Validated, Accurate and Most Importantly Useful!
These functional tests NDs run are offered by the same labs MDs use for their testing. Anyone who questions the accuracy or validity of these tests much also question the conventional tests.
Why Do NDs Offer Tests MDs Don't?
Our objectives are different. MDs look for disease (and they're great at it); NDs also look for disease, but we also look to optimize function.
You see an MD to see if your symptom underlies a potentially serious or life threatening condition or disease. Tests are done to rule in or rule out disease.
You should see an ND to see why the symptom exists in the first place. We look to optimize function, over and above ruling out disease.
